Guide · as of 22 Oct 2026eSIM in Switzerland and the UK with an Austrian plan: what A1, Drei and Magenta charge
Switzerland is in neither the EU nor the EEA, and the UK left the EU. A1 and Drei therefore bill both countries with their non-EU roaming options; Magenta treats the UK like the EU “until further notice”, but not Switzerland. Here is what that costs as of 22 Oct 2026, and when a Saily eSIM is cheaper.
In short
- Switzerland: A1 Roaming Pass €4.90 per GB, A1 Datenwoche 2 GB/7 days for €4.90, Drei from €5.00 for 1 GB (15 days). Magenta without a package: €11.26 per MB – use a package or an eSIM there.
- UK: on Magenta your EU data applies (until further notice, says Magenta). On A1 and Drei you pay as in Switzerland – Roaming Pass, Datenwoche or a Drei package.
- Saily (as of 22 Oct 2026, US dollars): Switzerland from US$3.99 for 1 GB/7 days, UK from US$4.49; unlimited plans for both.

- A1: the Roaming Pass bills per started 1 GB block; A1 says it is switched on automatically for every tariff signed since 24 June 2026, with a default data limit of €60 (you can raise it). Included units from your tariff or packages are used first. The Datenwoche runs 7 calendar days (Austrian time) and can be booked several times at once.
- Drei: packages last 15 calendar days, up to 5 packages within 15 days. For the United Kingdom (incl. Northern Ireland), Drei’s footnote excludes overseas territories from the included units.
- Magenta: data roaming stops at €60 without a package. Travel packages depend on your tariff – check the roaming finder.
The EU rule behind this: according to the European Commission (Your Europe), “roam like at home” applies in the EU, in the EEA countries Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, and in Moldova and Ukraine. Other countries are not covered – operators may extend their offers voluntarily, and roaming outside the EU/EEA can be expensive. Neither Switzerland nor the UK is on that list; Magenta treating the UK like the EU is the operator’s own choice. Your Europe, checked 22 Oct 2026

Drei for more than 15 days: one package mix per 15-day period. Magenta Switzerland: at €11.26 per MB, about 5 MB already pass €60, so the cut-off applies long before the planning size. A1 blocks at €60 by default – higher A1 totals only if you raise the limit.
What this means
- A1 customers: the A1 Datenwoche is the cheapest published A1 option per GB for Switzerland and the UK – no new eSIM needed. For lots of data, stack packages or compare with a Saily plan.
- Drei customers: Go (1 GB) and Go Select (5 GB) cover short trips; for 30 days you need packages for two 15-day periods.
- Magenta customers: in the UK your EU data applies (until further notice, says Magenta). In Switzerland don’t use data without a package – pick one in the roaming finder or use an eSIM.
- Lots of video or hotspot use: Saily unlimited (fair use above) is the option without counting GB. For Switzerland + UK + EU countries on one trip: Saily Europe.

Common questions
Does EU roaming apply in Switzerland?
Not automatically. A1 says data roaming within the EU plus Liechtenstein, Norway and Iceland is covered by your tariff – Switzerland, however, is in zone 1 of the A1 Roaming Pass (€4.90 per started GB). For Magenta, Switzerland is data zone 2 (€11.26 per MB without a package). Some tariffs include Swiss roaming units – A1 says those are used first.
Is the UK EU roaming on Austrian tariffs?
It depends on the network: Magenta says on its roaming page that the EU rules and roam like at home still apply in the UK until further notice. A1 lists the UK in zone 1 of the Roaming Pass (€4.90/GB), Drei in its Go and Go Select roaming packages (as of 22 Oct 2026).
What is the A1 Roaming Datenwoche?
A weekly A1 package: 2 GB for €4.90, valid 7 calendar days (Austrian time), no commitment, can be stacked. A1 lists Switzerland and the UK among the countries.
Which networks does Saily use in Switzerland?
Salt and Sunrise, 4G/LTE and 5G, according to Saily.
Does one Saily plan cover Switzerland and the UK?
No, country plans cover one country each. For both (or for EU countries as well) there is Saily’s Europe regional plan with 35 countries.
