Roaming in the Philippines on an Austrian plan: what A1 and Drei charge
The Philippines is outside EU roam-like-at-home, so the EU data in an Austrian plan does not apply there. Published prices, checked on 22 Oct 2026 (euros incl. VAT):
| Network | Option | Data | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| A1 | Roaming Pass (Zone 2) | per started GB | €5.90 |
| Drei | Roaming-Paket Travel | 1 GB, 15 days | €10.00 |
| Drei | Roaming-Paket Travel Select | 5 GB, 15 days | €20.00 |
For the 10 GB planning size (14 days), A1’s Roaming Pass would bill 10 × €5.90 = €59.00; on Drei, 2 packages (Travel Select + Travel Select) cover it for €40.00. A1 says the Roaming Pass is switched on automatically for every tariff signed since 24 June 2026, and it blocks roaming data at a default limit of €60, which you can raise yourself.
Magenta prices depend on the tariff — look them up in Magenta’s roaming finder. Older tariffs without these options can cost more. Sources: A1, Drei, Magenta.
Paying in the Philippines: Philippine peso (PHP)
In the Philippines you pay in PHP, not euros. For a euro account, card payments and ATM withdrawals in PHP are foreign-currency transactions: many banks add a foreign-transaction fee or a marked-up exchange rate. Check your bank's fee list before you go. If a card terminal or ATM offers to charge you in euros instead of PHP, choosing PHP is usually cheaper, because otherwise the merchant's or ATM operator's rate applies.

Before you fly to the Philippines
- Buy and install the eSIM at home on Wi‑Fi. Saily says plans activate automatically when you arrive and can be activated up to 180 days after purchase.
- Turn on data roaming for the Saily line (Saily’s setup steps require it) and switch data off on your home SIM, so apps do not use expensive roaming by accident.
- Keep the home SIM active for bank and login text messages — travel eSIMs like Saily’s are data plans.
- Saily says coverage is reliable in Manila and Cebu and in Boracay, Palawan, El Nido and Siargao, but patchier and slower in rural areas — download offline maps for island days.
Assumptions and sources
Light 0.20 / normal 0.50 / heavy 0.95 GB per day, plus optional extras, plus about 20% buffer. No live retail prices.
Data use follows your phone habits, not the season. Count only the days you will rely on mobile data rather than hotel Wi‑Fi.

Common questions
Is 10 GB enough for 14 days in the Philippines?
Island hopping, ferry days and city time in Manila or Cebu fit normal use. Saily lists Philippines plans from 1 GB for 7 days up to 20 GB for 30 days, plus unlimited options. The 6–9 GB estimate plus buffer lands on 10 GB. Hotel Wi‑Fi is not counted. Streaming video on mobile is the usual reason to go larger.
Should I roam in the Philippines instead?
The Philippines is outside EU roaming. As of 22 Oct 2026, A1’s Roaming Pass bills €5.90 per started GB there (zone 2) and Drei sells 1 GB for €10 or 5 GB for €20, valid 15 days. Compare that with an eSIM quote for the same GB.
How much data do I need for 7, 14 or 30 days in the Philippines?
With normal use (maps, messaging, social, no daily video) TripUtils estimates: 7 days: 3–5 GB, plan for 5 GB (smallest Saily fit: 5 GB / 30 days, US$11.99); 14 days: 6–9 GB, plan for 10 GB (smallest Saily fit: 10 GB / 30 days, US$18.99); 30 days: 12–18 GB, plan for 20 GB (smallest Saily fit: 20 GB / 30 days, US$29.99). Saily prices as listed on 19 Oct 2026.
Is there one eSIM for the Philippines and other countries in Asia?
Saily lists an Asia and Oceania plan (from US$4.99, 22 countries on 19 Oct 2026). For a multi-country trip, check on Saily that every country on your route is included; for a single country the country plan is usually the simpler choice.
Do I need a plug adapter in the Philippines?
The Philippines uses Types A, B and C at 230 V / 60 Hz. Europlug chargers fit Type C sockets; Type A/B sockets need an adapter.
Do you show live Saily prices?
No. The plan table on this page is a dated snapshot from saily.com (22 Oct 2026); the live price is always on Saily. The GB figures are TripUtils estimates.
