Vietnam eSIM

How much eSIM data for 30 days in Vietnam?

For 30 days in Vietnam with normal daily use, TripUtils estimates 12–18 GB. A 20 GB plan is the usual buffer. Not a live price. Grab, maps and translation sit in normal use. Overnight buses and hauls between Hanoi, Hoi An and HCMC do not by themselves require the heavy setting — video does.

What to do next

EU roaming does not cover Vietnam. A 20 GB plan is the usual buffer. Open Saily and pick a live Vietnam plan.

Roaming in Vietnam on an Austrian plan: what A1 and Drei charge

Vietnam is outside EU roam-like-at-home, so the EU data in an Austrian plan does not apply there. Published prices, checked on 22 Oct 2026 (euros incl. VAT):

NetworkOptionDataPrice
A1Roaming Pass (Zone 1)per started GB€4.90
DreiRoaming-Paket Go1 GB, 15 days€5.00
DreiRoaming-Paket Go Select5 GB, 15 days€10.00

For the 20 GB planning size (30 days), A1’s Roaming Pass would bill 20 × €4.90 = €98.00. A1 says the Roaming Pass is switched on automatically for every tariff signed since 24 June 2026, and it blocks roaming data at a default limit of €60, which you can raise yourself. Drei packages last 15 days, so a longer trip needs packages for each period.

Magenta prices depend on the tariff — look them up in Magenta’s roaming finder. Older tariffs without these options can cost more. Sources: A1, Drei, Magenta.

Tet and peak beach months move stays; the data estimate is still GB per day of phone use.

Common questions

Is 20 GB enough for 30 days in Vietnam?

Grab, maps and translation sit in normal use. Overnight buses and hauls between Hanoi, Hoi An and HCMC do not by themselves require the heavy setting — video does. The 12–18 GB estimate plus buffer lands on 20 GB. Hotel Wi‑Fi is not counted. Streaming video on mobile is the usual reason to go larger.

Should I roam in Vietnam instead?

Vietnam is outside EU roaming. As of 22 Oct 2026, A1’s Roaming Pass bills €4.90 per started GB there (zone 1) and Drei sells 1 GB for €5 or 5 GB for €10, valid 15 days. Compare that with an eSIM quote for the same GB.
